Programs and Partnerships
The primary objective of the Programs and Partnerships area is to manage the successful development and advancement of Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) athletes along their sporting pathways. The other objective is to recruit, develop and retain quality coaches. Programs and Partnerships oversees the 12 squad sport programs and individual athlete programs to ensure they are athlete focused, coach managed and expert guided.
Programs and Partnerships assists NTIS coaches with the management of finance and budgeting for their program and assists to negotiate and develop annual service operational plans. This includes overseeing annual training and competition plans as well as setting, assessing and reporting of key performance objectives. The Programs and Partnerships unit also provides an effective link between the NTIS, the Northern Territory Sporting Organisations (NTSO) and National Sporting Organisations (NSO).
Programs and Partnerships administers the scholarships for individual and squad athletes and monitors all individual athlete development plans.
Currently there are 12 sports operating programs at the NTIS. Six of these are housed internally at the NTIS, Marrara Athletics Stadium. They are AFL, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League and Rugby Union, all of which have full time coaches. Six sport programs are located externally, Cycling, Football (Soccer), Sailing, Swimming, Tennis and Tenpin Bowling, all of whom have external coaches or coaching coordinators.

- Coach recruitment, retention, support, welfare and professional development
- Athlete scholarship management
- Mid-year and end of year program reviews
- Coach meetings
- Service operational plans monitoring
- Individual athlete development plan monitoring
- Athlete results tracking and recognition of achievements
- Coach / Athlete / Parent inductions and education
- NTIS policy development and implementation including child protection, harassment free sport and the athlete/coach code of conduct
- NTIS sport framework and sport application process
Sport Programs Manager – Sean Cooke
The Sport Programs Manager oversees the management of all of the NTIS Sport Programs, both internal and external. He fosters stakeholder relationships between the National Sports Organisations, Northern Territory Sports Organisations and the NTIS. He is directly responsible for Coach recruitment, development and retention.
He is responsible for administering the scholarship functions of the AFL, Rugby Union and Cricket squad programs. He also manages the Individual Athlete scholarship program. He monitors all injured athlete agreements, plays a lead role in policy development and manages effective key sponsor relationships. He also monitors closely the achievements of NTIS athletes competing both nationally and internationally. The Sport Programs Manager is also the administrator of the of the NTIS database.
Sport Programs Coordinator – Don Boyanton
The Sport Programs Coordinator is responsible for administering the scholarship and risk management functions of the Hockey, Rugby League and Netball squad programs. He also coordinates coach inductions and professional development activities, athlete/parent inductions and community education. He manages individual athlete plans and the NTIS website content. Other administrative functions include policy development and implementation as well as the role of NTIS Member Protection Information Officer.
